These pistols were made in very limited quantities and very few exist today. This pistol probably dates to the War of 1812 period and was most likely made for a state militia contract. Round steel smoothbore barrel is stamped with a deeply struck "P" circular proof. Flat lockplate with beveled edges, stamped in center "J. HENRY", features a gooseneck cock. Standard brass brass 1807-1808 contract-type plain brass furniture, front tang of triggerguard is rounded. Full length walnut stock and wooden ramrod. Barrel retains a reapplied blue finish with some marks around touch hole from reconversion to flintlock. Brass retains a mellow patina with a few light scattered marks. Stock good, as refinished, a few scattered marks from use and wrist has been broken and repaired. This is a seldom encountered contract pistol and little is known about its history.
