Barrel is dated "10-26" and stamped "SA". The M1 improved Model 1922 was adopted in 1925. This is an original, unaltered M1 assembled in 1926. Features full round blued barrel, blued frame, Springfield 1903 front sight, single barrel band, walnut half stock, no forend, finger groove, and single barrel band. This new DCM rifle was not available until the winter of 1925-26. This is the very desirable Issue Model that went to the military services. Has the so-called "SB" pistol grip stock with finger groove and the barrel was not drilled or tapped for blocks, as was the NRA Model. The military style, seemingly more rare than the NRA style, has the full checkered metal buttplate, special Lyman target peep sight mounted to rear bridge. Original magazine and period leather sling. Fine bore and action. It was never converted to the M2 short pull variation, making the military issue all original unaltered with blue finish and early barrel date amongst the shortest production of all Springfield Model 1922 models. Wood is excellent with just a little darkening at butt; no cracks or chips. Frame is a blue mixing with brown patina. Barrel retains 98% original factory blue. Extremely fine and scarce military Springfield .22 rifle.
