Offered is one of the most unusual and highly desirable Stevens single shot rifles that we have come across. This rifle was built using the desirable and sturdy No. 44-1/2 falling block action to which a 30" part octagon to round hevy barrel was added. When referring to extra heavy barrels, it is the general consensus that a rifle is so equipped when the outside diameter of the barrel at the breech is larger than the frame, and such is the case for this rifle. Barrel measures 1-1/8" diameter at muzzle. The octagon flats are 1/2" wide. Rifle weights 14lbs. The standard rear sporting sight has a filler. Period tang sight is mounted as well as a Lyman patented adjustable globe front sight. The 44-1/2 action retains approximately 95% of the original color case hardening, a style of which is unique to Stevens rifles, with a striation pattern. Strong traces of colors on lever. 98% Nitre blue on block. Heavy Swiss buttplate with visible finish. Barrel retains approximately 95% of the original factory blue with most of the wear at the muzzle and thinning a bit underneath barrel; balance is a fine plum. Razor sharp edges and legends. The specially made oversized forend features a Schnabel tip and is in excellent condition with no cracks. Buttstock features straight grain American walnut, proud to metal with beautiful finish and no cracks. Perfect action. Strong, clean bore. Overall, an exceptional heavy barrel Stevens target .22 with the popular 44-1/2 action with lots of condition.
