Scarce, probably American assembled Light Dragoon pistol, using English parts. Tapered round smooth bore steel barrel, stamped on left side of breech with British view and proof marks, along with maker's mark "WB", probably for William Brander. Early rounded lockplate marked "RICHARDS" in center, early detached pan. Brass Light Dragoon style furniture, except for American-made flat sheet brass sideplate. Plain walnut stock with wooden ramrod, short grip in the style often seen on American restocked pistols. For a similar example, see pages 266 and 269 of George C. Neumann's "Battle Weapons of the American Revolution". Very good condition, lock and barrel retain a nice and even grey patina with a few light scattered marks and some light freckling. Brass furniture retains a mellow patina with some scattered marks from use. Stock very good with a few light marks and a few minor chips replaced around lockplate. This is a well-made example of a Revolutionary War period American restock.
