Buffalo Bill’s Wild West Show trunk made from par fleshe (Indian painted hide), with steer hide accents. Approx. 30” in width by 11” deep, nicely stitched and well made and very showy in the Wild West tradition. A 1968 Billings Gazette article pictures this truck. Caption reads in summary ‘the trunk belonged to the Grainger family who operated the new Yellowstone hotel and antique shop in Laurel, MT, and were well known collectors of Wild West memorabilia in the early years. There is some faded writing on one side. You can read the word "Buffalo" and on the next line, "Wild West Circus". On the next line, a “C” can be seen. This item was sold on iCollector on October 26, 2011. Most recently, this bag sold at a Little John’s auction. We can offer no more provenance than what has been given but it’s history does go back to the 1960’s and we have nothing to refute these stories and believe it to be exactly as it is portrayed as a Buffalo Bill traveling satchel.
