Sometime during the 1870's, Springfield Armory converted approximately 700 First Types from percussion to centerfire. They featured walnut stocks with case hardened breech block, frame, lock, lever, trigger plate and lever catch. The barrel, bands, buttplate, sling swivels and ramrod were left in the white. Featured full forend with two bands instead of three. They were serial numbered on the tang and left side of barrel. Lock has the proper Sharps patent dates. Bands are stamped "U" and butt is stamped "US". Left side of frame has patent dates. Military sights. All metal is basically a grey-brown clean patina. Wood is clean and proud to metal with usual minor dings. Excellent bore. Comes with a period sling and bayonet.
