Curved unfullered Damascus steel blade. Silver guard of familiar form with languettes. Guard decorated with chiseled florals and scrolls with jade and turqoise ornamentation on both sides. Fine jade hilt extensively carved with well-executed relief flowers and foliage, hilt probably 18th century. Wooden scabbard covered with green velour, repousse silver mounts extensively decorated with turqoise. Excellent overall, blade retains a grey patina with a few areas of light spotting and light scratches and scabbard wear, much of Damascus pattern still visible. Guard retains an unpolished patina and has a few minor marks. Hilt excellent with some minor natural discoloration, carving shows almost no wear. Scabbard cover has some fading and minor fraying at seam, mounts dark and with some minor denting and a few small pieces of turqoise replaced or missing. Overall, this is a very high quality sword with a magnificent and early jade hilt. Hilts of this quality are seldom encountered!
