Hilted by Bannerman or Hartley & Graham with a one-piece solid brass stirrup hilt. Slightly curved Damascus steel blade with two partial fullers. Ricasso stamped on one side with Clauberg mark and other side marked "W.H. HORSTMANN / & SONS / PHILADELPHIA" in an etched and gilt decorated plaque. Right side of blade with high-relief etched and gilt decorated arms and patriotic motifs including a large American eagle with "E. PLURIBUS UNUM" banner, a smaller eagle, panoply of arms, and a patriotic shield with "US" beneath a display of pole arms. The left side features a large "U.S.", crossed cannons with arms another elaborate panoply of arms. Top half of spine decorated with relief and gilt decorated leaf design and "IRON PROOF". This is a very high quality and well-decorated blade and belongs on a presentation saber of the highest quality! Blade excellent with only light wear to gilt in some areas and some minor freckling, retains more than 90% gilt finish. Hilt excellent with a mellow unpolished patina and a few scattered marks.
