This is a fine presentation eagles head pommel Army officer's saber in a very rare configuration. Curved nickel plated steel blade with single fuller on each side, blued and gilt decorated panels on both sides. Right side etched with scrolls, an American eagle, crossed cannons, and a vacant etched presentation panel. The left side is decorated with foliage, large intertwined "US" and arms motifs. Left side of ricasso marked "GEMSCO" in a wreath and "GERMANY", opposite side with star and "PROVED". Cast gilt branch guard with smaller two branch counter guard, both decorated with relief foliate scrolls and florals, eagle head pommel with chased feathers. Shagrin grip wrapped with braided brass wire. Complete with nickel plated steel scabbard with relief cast gilt mounts featuring floral scroll decorations in relief. Complete with gold sword knot with red pinstripes. Blade excellent with most of original finish and only a some light scabbard marks and wear to finishes. Hilt has some light wear and retains nearly all of gilt finish. Scabbard has almost all of original finish and some light wear to high areas of gilt mounts. This is a scarce and attractive presentation sword.
