This scarce Winchester 1897 features a round barrel with brass front bead, usual address and patent info, flame grained American walnut buttstock with diamond shaped ebony inserts behind receiver and checkered in two point pattern with the original Winchester brand hard rubber buttpad. The unengraved receiver has the serial number on bottom. Forearm is checkered in three point pattern. Good condition. Barrel has turned somewhat silvered and retains approximately 30% original blue. The receiver retains about 40% or the original blue with scattered scratches and marks. Checkering, which is mostly still visible, has thinned on stocks. Stocks retain most of an older restored finish and shows subsequent grain separations in butt. Buttplate is good with a couple of small losses. Bore will clean to very good. Mechanics are fine. All visible serial number match.
