Retains a pleasing even patina with mottled original blue. Markings are clear. 1901 style "C" marked rear sight. Made without a saddle ring bar. Clear 1901 dated cartouche. Good circle P proof behind trigger guard. Has "VDG" stamped vertically in front of the trigger guard. Proper carbine stock shows wear with handling marks. Proper 1899 style handguard appears to be a replacement, possibly a reproduction as the condition is significantly better than the stock. Good mechanical function. Bore is fine with sharp rifling.
