Manufactured 1922. Arsenal inspected and dated "5-22" blue finished barrel. Springfield Armory Model of 1922, serial number 114 marked blue finish receiver. One piece American walnut stock with early 1st pattern butt plate. Proper Lyman receiver sight and complete with very early 1st pattern long based magazine. These early Model 1922 rifles are very rarely found with the early features as they constantly rebuilt and reconfigured as new improvements were adopted. They were used extensively in the training of troops for marksmanship training as we were trying to hone soldiers shooting abilities while saving money at the same time using low cost .22 ammunition. During the post WWII era, many of these rifles were sold off through the DCM as well as being donated to military schools and shooting clubs through out the United States. Most were hard used by youthful shooters and the survival in prime original condition is very limited. Very fine overall with excellent bright shiny bore with sharp rifling. Walnut stock is very good with no inspectors marks or cartouches. Trigger guard has turned a mellow patina with blue finish in protected areas. Barrel and receiver retain over 80% of their blue finish with balance fading to an aged patina. 1st pattern bolt with out head space adjustment and early 1st pattern cocking assembly maintains its frosty blue finish.
