Carbine barrel with standard two line barrel address, standard carbine front sight with carbine rear sight. Fitted with a leather sleeve over rear sight. Forearm cap is blued. Barrel band is blued and receiver is blued. Loading gate is of a bright nitre blue. Dust cover is bright blue. Hammer is case colored, lever is case colored with trigger being case colored. Carbine buttplate is also case colored. Stock is of a deluxe grade but is not marked on lower tang as such. Carrier lifter is marked "45-75". Accompanied by a November 1994 dated Winchester Factory Records letter. This letter denotes that the carbine was shipped with 404 other arms in 1885 as a carbine with no other information available. Barrel retains 85-90% original blue with rub mark about 3" from rear of sight. Nosecap retains 90-95% original blue and barrel band is 75-80% original blue. Left side of receiver is 93-96% blue with front portion of side plate thinning. Top of receiver over chamber area is turning a medium to dark patina with dust cover retaining 93-95% blue with a little surface oxidation. Right side of receiver with minor surface scratches on back end of side plate with some oxidation to flat area of receiver. Balance of blue still retains 93-96% blue. Hammer retains 95% case color with a small drag line. Lever is 60-75% case color with bottom portion of lever mostly silvered out. Buttplate with 20-30% case colors with surface oxidation. Wood stock has a small crack next to receiver in upper tang area, crack only goes back about 1/2" to 3/4" no wood missing. Light impressions and surface scratches remain on left side whereas the right side has about the same amount of surface scratches with no wood missing and no further cracks indicated. All screw heads look to have been turned but not molested. Bright shiny bore with sharp rifling. Cycles properly and mechanics are fine. Overall very fine. From the Ray Bentley Collection.
