Manufactured 1867 to 1878. This superb example of an early Parker offering has laminated steel barrels which have name, address, and steel type engraved on concave game rib. Barrel flats are built up with brazed-on fillets in earliest style. Round bodied case hardened action with serial number on water table has lifter opening which has been converted to later type with top pinhole blocked. Back action locks are fitted with flat sided serpentine non-rebounding hammers. Rear of top strap is stamped with "1866" patent date. Action and locks are engraved with geometric borders; makers name does not appear on locks. Stump figured American walnut straight grip buttstock measures 14 - 1/16" over blued steel buttplate. Widely spaced point pattern checkering with mullered borders is at grip. Matching splinter forend with inset steel tip attaches to barrels with captive side bolt through oval steel escutcheons. This fairly high condition gun, possibly one of the best of this vintage in existence, is housed in its spectacular, original black walnut case which is nickel plated iron bound. Reinforcing plates are fastened by large protruding round headed screws. A rectangular plaque on top is engraved "Ogden Duremus Budd". When case is closed, the halves of case are held together by an unusual removable handle which engages four studs. Handle snaps into and is held in place by a push button catch which must be depressed to release handle. Interior is also of finished walnut with recesses lined in tan suede deerskin. A large array of original nickel-plated accessories are French fitted. Accessories include containers engraved for oiling swab, washing swab, drying swab, wiping crocus and emery swabs. Other containers are engraved "Emery paste", "Crocus paste", lubrication, breech brush, shell cleaner, and a large rectangular case engraved "sundries". Other compartments hold cleaning rod, turnscrews, oiler, wad punch, and striker wrench. Very fine condition. Barrels retain most of their original brown with excellent definition to pattern. Action and locks retain 40 - 50% case color, faded from normal hand wear and with a considerable amount of brown freckling on left side of action. Stocks retain most of their original French polish finish, checkering lightly worn. Bores are good with considerable pitting throughout. Triggers are reversed, front trigger fires left barrel. Case exterior is also excellent retaining nearly all of its French polish finish. Nickel plating is frosted and beginning to lift. Interior is excellent. Accessories are very fine to excellent.
