Comprising: (A) Model 1873 Trapdoor with bayonet and sling. Breech block dated 1873. Barrel with standard proof marks and 1873 rear sight. Blue and case colors mostly turned to brown patina with some scattered areas of corrosion. Bore has rifling with some scattered freckling. Action is strong and functions well. Complete with period sling and U.S. marked triangular socket bayonet. This is a very nice example of an honest, unaltered Model 1873. (B) Model 1888 Trapdoor rifle by Springfield. There were approximately 65,000 made between 1889 and 1893. Serial number falls in the correct range for this model. Blued barrel with 1884 Buffington rear sight and correct proof marks at breech. Case hardened breech block dated 1884. Standard Springfield marked lock and blued furniture. Walnut stock with SWP cartouche dated 1890. Good to very good condition; barrel, lock and furniture retain about 30-50% blued finish, mostly turning to brown with some scattered light freckling. Markings very good. Breech shows traces of case colors, mostly turned to brown. Stock is very good with a few marks from use and excellent cartouche. Complete with correct period sling and hooded sight cover. Lock is strong and functions well. Bore is excellent and shiny. A very honest Model 1888.
