This big gun is not listed in the serialization ledger however it was made in a run of 8 bores. The serial number preceding this was another No. 2 grade 8 bore, but with 34" twist barrels. This gun has 36" barrels marked with Parkers famous name and Meriden address as well as "Damascus" steel, on matted concave rib. Barrel flats are stamped with all correct markings and with an unstruck weight of 9 lbs 7 oz. (Presently weighs 9 lbs 2 oz.) Case hardened No. 6 frame with all correct markings on water table, including "E" grade. is engraved in typical No. 2 style with scroll and geometric borders, as well as splashes of scroll surrounding simple bird scenes with indeterminate birds on left side, and pheasant on right, with ducks in circular vignette on trigger plate. "PARKER BROS" is over each side bird scene. Trigger guard with scroll on bow, has serial number on tang. Relatively plain American walnut Parker capped pistol grip buttstock measures 13-3/4" over reproduction Parker dogs head buttplate with spur. Point pattern checkering is at grip, and a vacant German silver shield is on toe line. Matching splinter forend with shaped metal tip has typical Parker release with patent date. Excellent condition, as partially and competently refinished. Strangely enough barrels retain most of their original fine Damascus finish, possibly approaching 70% with very fine definition to intricate pattern. Action retains essentially all of a color re-hardening, engraving cleaned up. Trigger guard correctly re-blued. Stocks retain nearly all of an excellent restoration finish, checkering correctly re-cut, with some repairs behind top tang, and a large 6" filled crack on left side of butt. Bores are excellent. Action is tight. An impressive big bore Parker. THE PARKER STORY relates that 67 No. 2 grade hammerless 8 bore Parkers were made. Most (46) had 36" barrels.
