Manufactured in 1888. Features include; octagonal barrel with blade front sight, spirit level rear sight and a Lyman No.1 tang peep sight, case color falling block action with lever and single trigger, double X walnut stocks Schnabel forestock with wrap around checkered panel, pistol grip rear stock with two checkered panels at the wrist. Metal crescent buttplate. Gun retains approximately 95% of the factory applied blue finish. 80% Vivid case color on action and buttplate. Stocks have been refinished at some point. Bright and shiny bore with sharp lands and grooves. The breech of the barrel is stamped with the post-1905 "PW" proof an oval which would indicate that this rifle was returned to the factory for repair, replaced, or refinished after 1905. This post-1905 return would account for the barrel change from .32-40 to .38-55. In addition there is a "P" and an oval referred to as the mail order which indicates that some out of factory work was performed. The barrel stamp is correct for pre-serial 75000, which this is. Which would indicate an original barrel dating to gun is present. Factory research states that rifle No. 20024 was shipped with a No. 3 octagon 30" barrel in caliber .32-40 with plain trigger and pistol grip checkered stock; shipped on January 30th, 1888.
