Irish pistols are much rarer than English pistols. This set displays very nicely and features excellent craftsmanship. Both with octagonal smoothbore steel barrels with hooked breeches, top flats inscribed "Clarke Dublin" and left sides of breeches have two Irish proofmarks. Diminutive sights on tops of both barrels. Flat lockplates inscribed "Clarke" in centers, tails engraved with sprigs of decoration. Sliding tang half-cock safeties and roller frizzens. Engraved steel furniture with pineapple finials on triggerguards and small engraved silver buttcaps. Left sides both feature small shield escutcheons with "EB" monograms. Partially figured full length walnut stocks with horn-tipped wooden ramrods. Complete with period walnut case with re-lined partitioned green interior and two lidded compartments. Accessories include a key, dual cavity flask, oiler, bullet mold and a reproduction screwdriver and loading rod. Pistols are in fair to good condition, one has been restocked. Steel components retain a grey freckled patina with some wear overall and scattered marks from use. Some minor corrosion at breeches. Furniture has a grey patina with some scattered freckling and stocks have scattered scratches and marks from use and disassembly. Case lid has a few age cracks and scattered marks. Interior very good with some minor rubbing and wear. Accessories are good showing some use and marks. A very nice set of dueling pistols in an attractive box and made by a quality Irish maker!
