Dovetailed barrels are engraved "Holland & Holland 98 New Bond Street London" and ""PARADOX"" "Fosbury Patent" on tops either side of file cut quarter rib holding two folding leaf rear sight. Silver bead front is in raised front portion of rib. Barrel flats are stamped with London nitro proofs for 2-1/2" chambers and "R CHOKE". Bottoms of barrels are stamped with serial numbers, gauge and grade. Case hardened back spring sidelock Dominion type action features automatic safety, gas vents on breechface, and double triggers (front trigger "loose" to avoid bumping ones finger while firing second shot). Action has only border engraving. "Holland & Holland" is on each lockplate. Blued steel trigger guard has serial number on short tang. Well marbled stump figured European walnut straight grip buttstock measures 14-3/8" over serrated horn buttplate. Point pattern checkering wraps over top of grip, and a vacant silver oval is on toe line. Matching splinter forend has Deeley release. Gun is housed in a period leather case with brass corners, lined in green cloth. A William Read & Sons, Boston label is in lid. Case contains a pair of H&H marked snap caps and a leather hand guard. Fine condition, as partially refinished. Barrels retain over 95% well done rust blue, engraving remains clear. There are some areas of loss in finish due to moisture. Action retains approximately 20% original light case hardening color. Lockplates retain a bit more, with left lock approaching 40%. Top lever and trigger guard re-blued. Stock has old oil refinish, with some subsequent marks, checkering re-cut. Bores are excellent. Action is tight. Barrels are on face. Case leather is dark with many scuffs and rubs. Straps and handle are replaced and good. Interior cloth is good to fine, with insect damage. Label is foxed, with large tear from contact with action. Accessories are good. Most likely a very shootable example of this highly sought after English classic.
