Dovetailed barrels fitted with flat slightly raised game rib are unmarked as to maker. Barrel flats are stamped with London nitro proofs for 2-1/2" chambers and Birmingham re-proofs for 2-3/4" chambers along with "SLEEVED". Boxlock action with well filed fences features non-automatic safety, sliding third fastener, intercepting sears, and double triggers. Action is engraved with near full coverage very well cut varying sized shaded scroll. "John Saunders" is in swagged rib band on each side. Top lever, floorplate, trigger plate, and trigger guard are blued and also scroll engraved. Serial number is on trigger guard tang. Somewhat figured stump European walnut straight grip buttstock measures 14-5/8" over checkered wood butt. Point pattern checkering is at grip. A vacant gold oval is on toe line. Matching splinter Baker ejector forend has Anson release. Gun is housed in green canvas case with stitched leather corners. Top is embossed "L. B. D." Interior is lined in burgundy cloth. Case contains a pair of Masters marked snap caps, and cleaning equipment. Good as refurbished. Barrels retain essentially all fine rust blue, most likely applied at time of sleeving. Action is cleaned to coin finish. Top lever and other parts are re-blued and retain essentially all of that blue, engraving considerably softened. Stocks have dry oil refinish over a few light minor marks, checkering re-cut. Bores are excellent. Action is tight. Barrels are on face. Ejectors are strong and in time. Case is excellent. Straps and handle are fine. Interior cloth is very fine with some rubs. Accessories are excellent. A nicely refurbished boxlock gun, ready for many more years of service.
