This is another new to market Harper’s Ferry flintlock pistol that is previously unrecorded. This particular gun was made in the last year of production in 1808 and is so marked on the lock. The barrel breech is marked serial number "1806" along with partial "US" proof. This gun is in the standard configuration. Lock is marked "HARPERS/FERRY/1808" in vertical arcs behind cock. The wood opposite the lock is marked with script inspector initials "V" over "JS" for James Stubblefield. This gun is unlisted in "Harpers Ferry Arsenal and Joseph Perkin The Classic Arms of the Early Years", 2012, by Hudak. Fair condition overall with all steel surfaces buffed and cleaned bright. Lock has been professionally reconverted to flintlock configuration. The small brass band at forestock tip appears replaced and the ramrod entry ferrule has a small loss at the opening. Steel ramrod probably a replacement. Markings on lock tail are visible, though only traces of eagle over "US" marking forward of cock can be seen. Barrel markings "US 1806" are discernible though worn as can be seen in photos. Both sides of stock have cracks stemming from front of lockplate and front of sideplate to tip of forend, some minor losses from splintering. Mechanically sound with smooth bore with some corrosion.
