One of the finest known Colt 1862 Police revolvers, the Bodwell Colt has the extremely rare hand engraved "ADDRESS COL. COLT LONDON" address but is 100% American and no British proofs. Factory engraved barrel retains most of its original bright blue with some extremely minor corrosion, mostly on left side of barrel. All numbers matching including wedge. Cylinder retains most of its original bright blue with some fading and one bare spot over one chamber. Frame retains much original bright case hardening. Backstrap and trigger guard retain nearly all of their original factory silver plating. Cylinder retains several of its pin safeties, nipples retain some of the factory finish. Lever retains much original case colors. Particular note is the elaborate scroll engraving on the rebated portion of the cylinder indicating extra deluxe treatment. Very rare Colt factory inscription reads "J. H. Bodwell / With Compliments of Colts P.F.A. Mfg Co. / Oct. 25th, 1870". The Bodwell 1862 is cased in its original mahogany case with purple lining in fine condition throughout. Deluxe high polish blued, tapered leg Colt's patent bullet mold retains most of its original bright blue; deluxe Colt's patent powder flask with original deluxe silver top and spout retains all of its original darkened silver; two packets of Colt's Police pistol cartridge, and Eley's cap tins complete the ensemble. All Colt's Patent Firearms Company presentation firearms are extremely rare and this Bodwell 1862 is one of the finest Colt Police revolvers extant. An similar deluxe engraved and cased Colt 1862 presented to Major Charles T. Baker sold for $460,000 in 2017.
