This 1838 US Springfield appears to be in original flintlock condition with two external screws being modern replacements (the frizzen screw and the frizzen spring screw). The lock has, however, been re-converted from percussion and is marked Springfield 1838 with a US and eagle stamp beneath the pan. The breech of the barrel is marked 1838 but has substantial pitting in this area. The stock is untouched in its surface and shows usage; it is fully intact with no replaced wood and has a very legible cartouche on the left side. All metal parts are oxidized dark brown and the ramrod is not a correct one.
