RARE DELUXE ENGRAVED MARLIN 2nd MODEL 1891 LEVER ACTION RIFLE.MARLIN189110216232Cal. 32. Fine 1891 with 24” oct bbl, full magazine, combination front sight, semi buckhorn rear sight and Lyman combination tang sight. Mounted with A-style checkered straight grain American walnut with serpentine grip and crescent buttplate. Buttstock and buttplate are matching numbered to the rifle. Receiver is after market engraved in the style of Conrad Ulrich in #2 pattern consisting of a large oval vignette of a feeding bull elk on the left side and a standing whitetail buck on the right side. Both vignettes are surrounded by light foliate arabesque patterns and multiple borders. Matching engraving patterns are also found on top of receiver, top tang, bottom of receiver, buttplate tang and forend cap. About 1” of the exposed 5 flats of the bbl in front of the receiver are engraved to match. Accompanied by a Cody Museum Firearms letter which identifies this rifle as a Model 1891 in Cal. 32 with 24” oct bbl and pistol grip, shipped August 15, 1894. CONDITION: Very fine, all matching. Bbl & magazine tube retain about all of a fine restored blue. Receiver, lever & hammer also retain restored case colors, as does the buttplate. Wood is sound with usual handling & storage nicks and scratches. A couple of bruises on the forearm with a series of small dings on the buttstock and retains most of its orig varnish showing moderate wear on checkering. Mechanics are fine.
