FACTORY ENGRAVED DELUXE 2ND MODEL 1873 WINCHESTER OCTAGON BARREL FULL MAGAZINE RIFLE WITH CROTCH GRAINED AMERICAN WALNUT STOCKS BEECH''S COMBINATION FRONT SIGHT AND SINGLE SET TRIGGER. WINCHESTER 1873 DLX 97097 44 WCF Cal. 44 WCF. 24" oct bbl with full magazine. Blue and case colored finished. Beech''s combination front sight with standard rear sight. Receiver is engraved with a scroll/floral motif and has vignette of a running deer on left side plate. Elevator has a small scroll motif. Dust cover is of large oval type with coarse checkering. Dust cover rail is attached to receiver with screw. Rifle has a single set trigger. Standard tang markings. Stocks are crotch grained American walnut with checkering at wrist and forearm. Crescent buttplate. Manufactured in 1882. PROVENANCE: The Estate of G. W. "Bill" Stewart of Sonora, Texas. CONDITION: Very good. Bbl and magazine tube are a silver-gray patina overall. Front sight is very good. Bbl address is clear. Bore is dark with traces of rifling. Receiver is a deep brown patina overall with high point wear. Elevator is a mustard brown patina. Dust cover checkering is sharp. Tang markings are sharp. Set trigger needs repair and shows miniscule traces of fire blue. Hammer does not stay on half or full cock. Stocks are good to very good and undersized at wrist. Checkering on pistol grip and forend is visible but almost worn smooth. Buttstock is sun-dried and checked overall. Buttplate is also a deep brown patina. Forend has dark carry wear toward receiver. a truly colorful deluxe Winchester model 1873 rifle that definitely saw service in Texas. 49973-6 TEP (5,500-7,500)
