3RD MODEL 1873 WINCHESTER SADDLE RING CARBINE IN SHELTON-PAYNE ARMS CO. SADDLE SCABBARD. WINCHESTER 1873 SRC 601737B 32 WCF MODERN; C&R Cal. 32 SCF. 20" bbl. Blue finish. Straight grained American walnut stocks with carbine butt. Saddle ring. Bbl has standard sights. 2-line Winchester address with "WP" proof in oval in front of rear sight and Cal. mark behind sight. Receiver is of stepped type with "WP" proof in oval on front ring. Elevator is marked 32 Cal. Tang markings correct for this model. Magazine has a hanger which is correct for this cal. Saddle scabbard is brown russet leather with border tooling and a maker''s mark on both sides which reads "SHELTON-PAYNE-ARMS CO. MAKERS EL PASO, TEXAS". PROVENANCE: The Estate of G. W. "Bill" Stewart of Sonora, Texas. CONDITION: Very good. Bbl and magazine tube are a brown patina finish with generous traces of blue in protected areas. Carbine sights are good. Bbl markings are sharp. Bore is dark with visible rifling. Receiver retains 20-30% orig blue especially on left side near saddle ring. Dust cover is gray-brown patina with some pitting. Elevator is a mustard patina with sharp cal. mark. Hammer and lever are a silver-gray patina. Tang markings are sharp. Stocks are very good and full-sized with minor scratching and dents overall. Stocks have an old varnish finish. Buttplate is a silver-gray patina with no provision for a cleaning rod. Saddle scabbard is very good with a russet brown color and some stains. Maker''s cartouche is sharp on right side but worn on left side. A nice 73 carbine in a scarce cal. that came out of the brush in Texas. 49973-12 TEP (2,250-4,250)
