FINE NORTH AMERICAN ARMS COMPANY, LTD CALIBER 45 PISTOL. NORTH AMERICAN ARMS LTD 1911 TYPE PISTOL 86 45ACP MODERN; C&R Cal."North American Arms Company, Ltd." (NAA Co., Ltd.) of Quebec, Canada. In early July 1918, the U.S. government issued a contract for 500,000 Model 1911 pistols to the NAA Co. The NAA Co. leased the Ross Rifle plant to do the manufacturing and as part of the contractual agreement, the U.S. Government was to supply all of the raw materials. However, due to the shortage of materials, they were only able to supply enough material to produce approximately 100 sets of prototype or tool room parts, some or all of which were later assembled into completed pistols. Due to the Armistice of November 11, 1918, the contract was canceled in December of 1918 with no examples of completed pistols ever being accepted by the U.S. government. These 100 pistols were uniquely marked with only a SN on the left rear section of the slide along with the factory markings found on the left side of the slide. This specific pistol is marked on the slide "MANUFACTURED BY" over "NORTH AMERICAN ARMS CO. LIMITED" over "QUEBEC CANADA" along with no. "86" on the rear section behind the serrations, the left side of the trigger, and the left, lower rear corner of the receiver under the stock. CONDITION: The pistol itself is nicely machined and produced, the configuration of the parts and components are similar to the standard Colt Model 1911 models. Slide stop is grooved, not checkered. Front plate of bbl bushing has unique NAA profile. The hammer is a wide version very similar to the Colt production models except it is without any checkering on the spur. The grip panels are checkered walnut. The magazine is a blued pinned, two-tone pattern like the Colt versions. Bbl unmarked with 1911 profile. The condition of the slide is approximately 20% orig blue. Receiver has approximately 50% blue with the rest being patina. All edges sharp and crisp. Recoil spring has no crimped end as do normal 1911 recoil springs. Clean, crisp bore that has minor pitting. 51033-55 KXK (30,000-50,000)
