CLASSIC AND HIGHLY SOUGHT AFTER JOHNSON MODEL 1941 SEMI-AUTO RIFLE.JOHNSON1941B635530-06MODERN; C&RCal. 30-06. This specimen exhibits standard markings including .30-06 and "41" visible on bbl ring. Includes an orig leather sling marked "B.T.& B. CO. / 2" and rare Johnson bayonet in orig leather scabbard. Also included is an orig Johnson Automatics tri-fold pamphlet with photos of facts about the Johnson rifle, carbine, and machine gun. These rifles are seldom if ever found with matching numbered bolts and this one is no exception with bolt SN B6712. Appropriate "J.A." over ".30-06" marking visible through perforated bbl heat shield. PROVENANCE: From High Condition Collection of Discerning U.S. Military Rifle Collector, Offered Without Reserve. CONDITION: Overall appearance and finish extremely fine to near excellent orig gray/green finish on metal parts with some thinning and loss of finish to a gray/green patina at the high edge wear points of the mag housing and high edges of receiver to rear of rear sight. Wood buttstock exhibits some light handling marks and has been expertly repaired on both sides to the rear of the mag housing where at some point in the past a "U" shaped piece of wood was inserted as a replacement to both sides of stock. The work is so professional that only the change in the grain and the edge outline is noticeable. Bore exhibits distinct rifling with some shine otherwise dark in the grooves. Leather sling starting to wrinkle with brassing to the furnishings, but still very serviceable. Bayonet rates good or a little better, with a uniform brown patina and numbered 988 on the retaining spring stud. Leather scabbard in good condition with tight stitching, soft and supple just starting to flake. The Johnson automatic rifle saw limited service in the Pacific Theater as an alternative to the M1 Garand which was available in insufficient quantities to equip all American units, it also saw some use in Italy with specialized units. This makes it an important and sought after model for the U.S. Military arms collector. 50908-11 JWK77 (4,000-6,500)
