VERY FINE HOLLAND & HOLLAND 8 BORE HAMMER DOUBLE PARADOX WITH CASE. HOLLAND & HOLLAND HAMMER DBL PARADOX 15063 8 BORE Cal. 8 bore. 3-1/4" (?) Chambers. 26" Dovetailed steel bbls are fitted with slightly raised, flat, full length rib, holding single express rear sight and silver bead front with flip-up "moon" bead. Rear portion of rib is file cut, and has dolls head extension. Tops of bbls are engraved with Holland & Holland's New Bond Street address and "PARADOX Fosbery Patent". A sling loop is soldered to bottom of bbls. Bbl flats are stamped with London black powder proofs, "R. CHOKE", and with charge of "G273P". SNs are stamped on bottoms of bbls. Round bodied, spring loaded, Jones underlever action with third bite at rear, has top strap that extends over comb in typical "best" H&H fashion. Action is fitted with peninsula rebounding back locks with flat faced serpentine hammers having dolphin heads. Action and locks are engraved with about 80% coverage very well cut, varying sized, shaded, open scroll. "Holland & Holland" is engraved on each lockplate. Trigger guard has SN on tang which extends to scroll engraved steel grip cap. Nicely streaked and figured European walnut pistol grip buttstock measures 14-1/8" over Silver type pad, and features shadow line right hand cheekpiece. A vacant silver oval and sling loop are on toe line. Matching splinter forend has pivoting lever release. Drop at heel: approx 3-1/4", drop at comb: approx 1-15/16". Weight: 15 lbs. 5 oz. LOP: 14-1/8". Light green canvas, leather trimmed case, possibly original, is lined in burgundy cloth, and has reproduction paper Holland & Holland label in lid. Accessories include a round pewter oil bottle, bone striker bottle, H&H marked horn handled turnscrew, H&H marked powder dipper, 3 turned brass cases, assorted bullets, and some cleaning equipment, including 2-pc brass and ebony rod, with two pieces of another rod, mops and brushes. PROVENANCE: Copy of factory ledger page. CONDITION: Good, as partially refinished. Bbls retain essentially all of a London quality re-black. Engraving and file cutting of rib are considerably softened. Other metal parts retain 20 - 30% orig case hardening color, which is quite strong where protected. Stocks retain nearly all of an old hand rubbed oil finish, with a few light handling marks. Checkering is re-cut. Bores are excellent, lightly frosted. Action is tight. Bbls are on face. Right lock is crisp. Left lock will not rebound, but cocks crisply. Case is good to fine, considerably soiled and water marked. Handle is good, straps are fair. Renewed interior cloth is excellent, as is reproduction label. Accessories are good. These big bore paradox guns were designed to take the largest beasts on the planet. This example would undoubtedly make a good shooter. 49958-16 mgm3 (15,000-25,000)
