28 GAUGE BROWNING SHOTGUN SUPERPOSED CUSTOM SHOP EXHIBITION SIDEPLATED SUPERLIGHT WITH GOLD INLAYS BY J. BAERTEN AND CASE. BROWNING SUPERPOSED OU EXHIBITION SIDEPLATE SUPERLIGHT C184 28 GA MODERN Cal. 28 ga. This extremely attractive gun, product of the Browning Custom Shop, has 28" bbls fitted with narrow, matted, ventilated rib, and has Browning Morgan Utah and Montreal P.Q. address, along with "MADE IN BELGIUM" on left side of top bbl. Left side of breech is marked for full and full chokes. Blued and specially filed superposed action is fitted with ornamental sideplates, and single selective gold plated trigger with finger blade checkered. Action is tastefully two-color gold wire inlaid along its beads and borders. The inlay has small open scroll terminations to very fine effect. This treatment continues onto sideplates and surrounds finely detailed dog and bird scenes with the major subjects relief gold inlaid; pointing setter watches a departing pheasant on left plate, and a quail wings across open grass with pines in background on the right. Another quail is in flight on trigger guard bow. This very attractive and well cut engraving is by noted Browning engraver, Jose Baerten whose signature appears at the bottom of left lockplate. Striking, flame figured claro walnut straight grip Superlight buttstock measures 14-3/8" over skip line checkered wood butt. Modified point pattern checkering wraps over top of grip. Schnabeled Superlight forend is somewhat lighter in color, than buttstock. Bore diameter: top -.549, bottom - .549. Bore restrictions: top - .035 (full), bottom - .035 (full). Drop at heel: 2-1/16", drop at comb: 1-3/8". Cast: Neutral. Weight: 6 lbs. 5 oz. LOP: 14-3/8". Vinyl Hartmann case is lined in faun faux fur, and contains Naugahyde tag and two keys. PROVENANCE: Remarkable William Larkin Moore Private Estate Collection of Fine Sporting Arms. CONDITION: Excellent, very near to new, with some light assembly and handling marks, major exception two index fingernail sized compressions in right bottom forend checkering, and a small ding on left side of rib about 4" from breech.
