WINCHESTER MODEL 21 CUSTOM SHOTGUN WITH EXCEPTIONAL GOLD INLAYS AND ENGRAVING BY OBILTSCHNIG WITH CASE. WINCHESTER SXS 21 CUSTOM 31976 12 GA MODERN; C&R Cal. 12 ga. 2-3/4" Chambers. 28" Bbls with matted game rib, are marked with Winchester trademark, model, and gauge on side of left bbl. There are 1-1/2" triangles of very well cut semi-relief shaded scroll on breech ends enhanced with gold wire inlay. There are two gold lines around muzzles. Coin finished, typical 21 action with automatic safety and blued single selective trigger, is wonderfully embellished with full coverage of very well cut Germanic style, open, shaded scrolling acanthus with some geometric borders. This scroll is bordered with gold band and spiral inlay surrounding vignettes of game birds and dogs with major characters relief carved in gold; left side rear depicts a cock pheasant taking wing, with cock and hen running at front, and a drake mallard flushes from marsh at rear of right side, while another drake and hen fly over marsh at front. A pointer watches a pair of grouse flush in large vignette on trigger plate. Trigger guard has matching scroll with gold wire inlay, and tang is engraved "Engr. By Hans Obiltschnig Austria" on scrolled riband. Beautifully marbled and classically figured flesh-toned European walnut straight grip buttstock measures 14-1/8" over checkered wood butt. Well cut point pattern checkering with line borders is at grip. Matching tapered beavertail forend has typical J-spring and knurled button release, and has reinforcing brace. Bore diameter: left -.729, right - .727. Bore restrictions: left - .024 (mod), right - .010 (IC). Wall thickness: left - .038, right - .040. Drop at heel: 2-1/4", drop at comb: 1-7/16. Cast: Neutral. Weight: 7 lbs. 3 oz. LOP: 14-1/8". High quality dark brown leather case with stitched and shaped leather corners, is lined in green cloth, and has Winchester label in lid. PROVENANCE: Remarkable William Larkin Moore Private Estate Collection of Fine Sporting Arms. CONDITION: Excellent, as custom finished, with only a few minor marks on metal. Buttstock has a few fairly deep scratches along right side of toe line. Action is a bit loose, otherwise mechanically good. Case is excellent, with some rubs. 50594-72 mgm84 (8,000-12,000)
