SWEET LITTLE WOODWARD 20 BORE OVER-UNDER SIDELOCK EJECTOR HEAVY PROOF GAME SHOTGUN WITH CASE AND ACCESSORIES.WOODWARDBEST O/U707620GAMODERN; C&RCal. 20 ga. 2-3/4" Chambers. 26" Demi-bloc bbls with narrow, matted game rib, are engraved "James Woodward & Sons. 64 St. James's Street. London. England." on left side of top bbl, with London nitro proofs for 2-3/4" chambers on right side and bbl flat. Small sized, case hardened, low profile, OU sidelock action features automatic safety (SAFE inlaid in gold), gold band tumbler end cocking indicators, and dbl triggers. Action and lockplates are engraved with typical Woodward house rose and scroll. "J. Woodward & Sons" is in parchment scroll flanked device on each lockplate, and bottom of rounded action bar is engraved "Woodward's" "Patent" "Under & Over". Rose and scroll engraved trigger guard has SN on tang. Nicely streaked and lightly fiddle figured lightweight European walnut straight grip buttstock measures 14-7/8" over checkered wood butt, and features typical drop points in front of semi-diamond hand with point pattern checkering. A vacant silver oval is on toe line. Matching slim ejector forend has Anson release. Bore diameter: top -.613, bottom - .613. Bore restrictions: top - .009 (lt mod), bottom - .006 (IC). Wall thickness: top - .022, bottom - .026. Drop at heel: 2-3/8", drop at comb: 1-5/16". Neutral cast. Weight: 6 lbs. 0 oz. LOP: 14-7/8". What is possibly orig, makers leather case is lined in scarlet cloth, and has paper Woodward label along with instruction labels for under-over gun, in lid. Case contains Vulcanite covered 2-pc cleaning rod, pair of horn bodied Woodward marked snap caps, small nickel striker bottle with spare strikers, Woodward marked 20 bore chamber brush with horn handle, along with matching turnscrew, horn striker block, Woodward marked glass oil bottle, two Japanned Woodward marked tins (one for gun oil), black morocco wallet with pull through cleaning kit, and brown wallet with brush and mop. Small covered compartment holds broken case extractor and two keys. PROVENANCE: G & H letter confirming specs indicating that this gun was orig made with single trigger in 1936, and sold to Mr. Dean Witter, co-founder of Dean Witter and Co. CONDITION: Excellent, as partially refurbished. Bbls retain nearly all of a fine quality re-blue, with a few light subsequent marks. Action retains 30 - 40% orig case hardening color. Lockplates retain nearly all of their fine orig color. Top lever and trigger guard retain most of their orig bright blue, trigger guard silvering at tang. Newly made correctly shaped buttstock retains essentially all of its hand rubbed oil finish. Orig forend wood finished to match, checkering correctly freshened. Bores are excellent. Action is tight. Bbls are on face. Ejectors are strong and in time. Case leather is still relatively light in color with scuffs on edges and corners, as well as a few overall. Orig straps and handle are good. Interior cloth is fine with light soiling and compressions from contact with gun and accessories. Labels are fine with light soiling, some foxing.
