Bottoms of bbls are stamped "CL" and with SNs. Splinter is marked with importers name and address, "Foxtrot LLC Waterville, ME". Wide sling loop is soldered to bottom of bbls. Case hardened sidelock action has top strap which extends over comb, and also features automatic bolted safety (SAFE inlaid in gold), bushed strikers, square shouldered dolls head, rib extension, engraved line tumbler end cocking indicators, and dbl triggers. Action and lockplates are engraved with near full coverage medium scroll with rose bouquet highlights. "Charles Lancaster" is on each lockplate, and on coiled ribbon device on bottom of action over "London". Scroll engraved trigger guard has SN on tang which extends to engraved steel grip cap. Lightly figured and marbled European walnut capped pistol grip buttstock measures 14-7/8" over Silver type pad, and features right hand shadow line cheekpiece, unique to Lancaster, rounded drop points, and standard point pattern checkering at grip, a sling loop, as well as a gold oval engraved "M. D" has leather trimmed canvas outer cover, Case interioris lined in burgundy cloth and has gold embossed black leather Lancaster label in lid. Case contains 2-pc wood covered steel cleaning rod and a pair of snap caps. PROVENANCE: Typescript of information from ledger page. CONDITION: Fine, as found. Bbls retain most of what appears to be orig blue, considerably thinned and browned. Action and lockplates retain 60 - 70% orig case hardening color, left lockplate perhaps a bit stronger. Stocks retain most of what appears to be orig finish with numerous marks and considerable carrying wear, with sharp edges rounded. Checkering somewhat worn and dirty. Bores are excellent, with a hint of erosion at throats, mostly in right bbl. Action is tight. Bbls are on face. Ejectors are in time. Case leather is darkening slightly and has a number of rubs, mostly on corners and edges. Straps and handle are good. Outer cover is good. Interior cloth is fine with considerable rubs, soiling and marks from contact with action and bbls. Lancaster label has some compressions and slight loss to gold, but is generally good. A good handling dangerous game rifle in an exceptionally fine caliber. 51737-1 MGM108 (17,500-27,500)
