OUTSTANDING GRADE-2 L.C. SMITH 8 GA SHOTGUN.L.C. SMITHGRADE 2917818GACal 8 ga. 32" chain Damascus bbls with full length matted to rib and brass front bead. Rib with small gold ribband marked "Hunter Arms Co., Makers. Fullton, N.Y.". Extremely large frame, dbl triggers, extractor, auto safety. Capped full pistol grip buttstock checkered in two-point pattern with 13-1/2" LOP over serrated lined HRBP. Splinter forearm checkered in three-point pattern with hard rubber dog's head escutcheon and triangular shaped ebony tip. Receiver is nicely engraved in typical early Grade 2 pattern with snipe in circle on right, quail in circle on left surrounded by light scroll engraving and marked "L.C. Smith" on sides. Dbl fastened trigger guard tang with SN noted and burst of scroll on bow. Weight: 12 lbs. 4 oz. CONDITION: Excellent and easily one of the nicer 8 ga L.C. Smiths this cataloger has examined. Bbls retain nearly all of an expert quality restored brown and white contrasted pattern by master gunsmith Buck Hamlin. Receiver retains 50-60% nice orig case hardening with minor staining and toning and one quarter sized area on bottom left of front action. Forearm is very good. Checkering lightly thinned as is escutcheon. Minor age crack in ebony tip. Buttstock is excellent with minor handling marks and scratches and retains most of what appears to be its orig finish. Buttplate is very good with a minor repair at toe. Bores are bright and shiny with minor orange peel. Mechanics are crisp. A rare gun in high orig condition with approx 31 made according to Houchins. 51428-1 JSL (15,000-22,500)
