HAUNTING GERMAN DEATH'S HEAD LUGER WITH ORIGINAL HOLSTER AND SPARE MAGAZINE. DWM LUGER 1917 98 9MM MODERN; C&R Cal. 9mm. This pistol is an extremely low SN "DWM 1917" Luger that was factory re-worked after WWI and sold on the civilian market as indicated by the Crown over N proof marks. Part of the process of re-working these WWI pistols was to scrub orig markings and hence the "1917" chamber date and "DWM" on the toggle is very soft. It is also understood that in the early days of the SS, they were procuring weapons any way they could through non-standard channels and it was almost "any which way you can" get the weapon to the SS depot where it was then re-worked again and marked for SS use. This Luger has a Death Head on top of the chamber just forward of the ghost of the 1917 chamber date. It includes one un-numbered blue steel aluminum based magazine and another magazine numbered "3263" as well as an orig black leather holster maker marked "ROBERT LARSEN / BERLIN / 1935" followed by makers symbol which is a "K" surrounded by a sunburst. Orig Luger take down tool present. Visible parts appear matching. Toggle reads "98" with muzzle down and facing rear sight. Left grip panel marked with solitary "0". Right grip panel no discernible mark. Consignor states he acquired this pistol and holster over 30 years ago from the veteran who brought it back. CONDITION: Overall appearance and finish extremely fine to near excellent as arsenal/depot refinish with wear to high edges to grey metal particularly at muzzle and on take down plate. Straw on take down latch, trigger, and safety rather shiny. Bore is shiny and bright with some frosting to the lands and grooves. Grips are extremely fine with some wear to checkering. Holster also extremely fine with green verdigris at brass attachment points and some brassing to high outer edge of magazine pouch. Overall, a very attractive looking Luger rig. 51221-1 JWK (8,000-15,000)
