UNMARKED SHORT PINFIRE OVER/UNDER HUNTING RIFLE BUILT FOR EUROPEAN ROYALTY.KONIGLICHEPINFIRE134014 MMCal 13 mm Pinfire. Rare small hunting rifle with 16-1/2" Damascus octagon over/under bbls with bone front sight & fixed rear sight. Damascus patterns are extremely fine with star bursts in the center. Side ribs are of equally fine Damascus. The round action receiver is tapered with stalking safeties on each side. Lock plates are back action with goose neck hammers. Mounted with a very highly figured French walnut buttstock that has shallow cheek piece and smooth steel shotgun buttplate with long tang. Bottom of stock & bottom of bbls have sling swivels containing an original green leather sling. Trigger guard is 2 pieces of steel and horn with fancy finger rest carved into the horn portion. Front of the trigger guard is the opening lever which when depressed allows the barrels to tip downward for loading. Receiver is beautifully relief engraved with a large vignette of two hounds chasing a stag on the left side and a bugling stag and hind on the right side, all surrounded by wonderfully executed foliate patterns with gold leaf background. The entire receiver is covered in intertwined foliate patterns with fine stippled background. Lock plates are matching engraved with vignettes of Raebuck and does, also in very detailed background scenes with gold leaf background. Hammers are deep relief engraved also with gold leaf in the recesses. Hammer nuts are gold covered. Stalking safeties are also engraved and gold inlaid with engraved screw heads. Sides of the top barrel, top flat of the barrel and top tang are beautifully inlaid in extremely fine gold leaf & vine patterns. Trigger guard is engraved with a standing stag that has a gold leaf background. Bottom of the receiver is inlaid in cross-hatched gold. Buttplate tang is engraved to match with the number "5". Receiver has double triggers with the front trigger set for the top barrel. This rare rifle is pictured in a self produced booklet of an individuals collection with the entire book written in German. CONDITION: Very fine. The metal is mostly a gray patina with sharp Damascus pattern on the barrels. The gold leaf in the engraving is virtually all intact. The horn trigger guard is completely intact. Buttstock is sound with a few light nicks & scratches and retains most of its original finish. Mechanics are crisp, brilliant shiny bores. 51162-1 JRL (2,500-4,500)
