RARE SMALL SIZE SCAGEL HUNTING KNIFE WITH ORIGINAL SHEATH.Fine hunting knife by the granddaddy of custom knife makers, William Scagel. Mr. Scagel was born in Michigan and began making knives in about 1910 for sale in Canada and the U.S. He continued his work into the 1930s and 1940s and made many knives for service members during WWII. He is considered the Grandfather of modern custom knife making. His knives were sold by Abercrombie & Fitch, Von Lengerke & Detmold and Von Lengerke & Antoine during the 1930s. Many famous sportsmen and outdoor adventurers carried his knives. This knife has a 4-1/4" x 13/16" flat ground blade and has Mr. Scagel's trademark Kriss stamp on the left side. The hand-guard is oval brass, flat on the bottom and scalloped on the top edge. Handle material is stacked leather with red & black spacers with aluminum & brass washers. Pommel is appropriate sized crown stag secured with a brass rivet. Accompanied by its orig oil finish black leather sheath that has rivets at the toe and top edges and is hand-stitched with a plain thumb strap on the belt loop. SIZE: CONDITION: Very fine. Blade has some light etching on both sides but appears to be completely intact with a fine sharp edge. Handle is fine and the pommel shows a wonderful patina.
