PRUSSIA 7TH GRENADIER REGIMENT KOENIG WILHELM I (2ND WEST PRUSSIAN) RESERVE OFFICER'S HELMET MODEL 1897.

Black lacquered leather body with fire gilded metal trim. Body has good form and firm stitching. One set of extra holes in helmet body. This is not uncommon when the solider changes from active frontplate to reserve frontplate. Exterior finish in very good condition. Interior sweat leather and silk headliner. Silk headliner has old museum inventory number stamped into it. Inner visors colored. Interior bell of helmet has large metal plume support. Frontplate is the wide winged Grenadier Eagle without banner. On eagle's tail is the added banner "22 Marz 1797". On eagle's breast is a gilt reserve cross. Flat chinscales with the special rosettes with crown and "FWR". Removable spike with star retainers. SIZE: PROVENANCE: The Doug Buhler Collection of Rare and Spectacular German Imperial Headgear and Pickelhauben. CONDITION: Very good overall. Frontplate retains about 50% of fire gilding. Exterior finish matte. Metal trim oxidized with age. Interior in virtually unworn condition. 51586-28 RT (3,000-4,000)
