MERCER COUNTY, PA, PERCUSSION LONG RIFLE BY WILLIAM FOSTER.WILLIAM FOSTERLONG RIFLENSN38Cal. 38 (7 Grooves) 42-1/2" Heavy octagon bbl is stamped "W. Foster" on top flat. Back action percussion lock is marked "Wolff & Lane Pittsburgh" in oval cartouche, and engraved with scroll and a pheasant. Full length brass capped curly maple stock is pinned to bbl and features deep crescent butt and PA style cheekpiece. Furniture is of brass. Trigger guard has finger and grip spur. Patchbox surround pierced and engraved with circles and spearpoint. CONDITION: Fair to good. Iron parts are a dark brown patina with silver highlights. Stock is a very pleasing hand lightened and rubbed patina. Forend is cracked away from butt portion at thimble. Mechanically good.
