VERY RARE WWII V-42 FIGHTING KNIFE ISSUED TO WILLIAM B. MCINTOSH, USS OMAHA.This knife is in very good condition with blade measuring 7-5/16″ retaining most of its blued finish in its correct scabbard. Scabbard still retains the "U S S OMAHA" stamped markings which are almost always obliterated. Beneath these markings are SN "C-15". There were only 70 of these knives issued to the USS OMAHA. This is a rare WW II fighting knife that is rarely offered identified and Wm. B. McIntosh is shown on Omaha's crew list (see attached Muster Roll of Crew in provenance). William B. McIntosh is listed as a Seaman 2nd class (S2cV6) for the quarter ending September 30, 1944. The USS Omaha was the lead ship of the Omaha-class light cruiser and had a fairly illustrious WWII history and its history should be read on the provenance link online. SIZE: PROVENANCE: William B. McIntosh 1944-1948; William McIntosh Jr. 1948; Present owner and consignor. CONDITION: Good to very good overall. Blade retains most of its orig blue finish with scattered areas of pitting. Correct sheath is sound and solid with minor crazing, scuffing and dark dry areas on periphery, broken strap missing snap clasp. We have never seen unobscured USS Omaha markings previous, but I believe these are orig. This is also the only example noted where the sailor's name is inscribed on ricasso. 52535-1 JS (4,000-6,000)
