SCARCE A.H. FOX HE GRADE BECKER BORED 12 GAUGE SHOTGUN.A. H. FOXHE2781412GAMODERN; C&RCal. 12 ga. 32" Chromox fluid steel bbls. Chambers marked for 3" however measure at 3-1/4". Full length matted top rib with brass front bead. Dbl triggers, automatic ejectors, non-automatic safety. Bbl flats marked with most intriguing marking "A.H. Fox 3 In. Mag. Duck" and "Barrels *** Guaranteed". Capped pistol grip buttstock checkered in 2-point pattern with 14-1/8" LOP over lined HRBP. Splinter forearm with Deeley release checkered in 2-point pattern. Receiver is lightly border engraved in standard HE pattern and marked "Ansley H. Fox" on sides. All visible SN's match. Bore diameter: left -.749, right - .749. Bore restrictions: left - .049 (EXTRA FULL), right - .051 (EXTRA FULL). Wall thickness: left - .042, right - .041 . Drop at heel: 2-7/8", drop at comb: 1-5/8". Weight: 9 lbs. 1 oz. PROVENANCE: The Larry Kelley estate collection. CONDITION: Very fine, as refurbished. Bbls retain 96-98% of a quality restore rust blue finish. Buttstock and forearm are excellent with minor handling marks and retain most of an older restored finish, forearm checkering has been re-cut. Receiver retains most of an older, possibly Savage, Cyanide case hardened finish. Trigger guard has been re-blued, engraving is somewhat thinned. Bores are bright and shiny. Mechanics are fine. According to Michael McIntosh in his book "A.H. Fox the Finest Gun in the World", pg 214, Burt Becker, Charles Askins, and John Olin, spent the summer of 1922 perfecting the Becker Bored Duck gun. This gun is likely amongst the first Becker Bored production guns given its SN. The stamping on the bbl flats is most intriguing and this gun should be further researched. 52084-13 JSL (4,500-7,500)
