WINCHESTER 3RD MODEL 1873 ROUND BARREL RIFLE WITH CRESCENT BUTTPLATE AND FACTORY LETTER.WINCHESTER187344727838WCFCal. 38 WCF. 24" rnd bbl, full magazine, full blue finish, straight grain American walnut stocks with crescent buttplate. Bbl shows correct 2-line Winchester address rolled in front of the rear sight with Cal. mark to the rear. Bbl has standard sporting sights. Receiver is of the stepped variety. Upper tang is marked "MODEL 1873" with finials. SN is stamped on the lower tang behind the lever latch. Elevator also has Cal. mark. Accompanied by a Cody Firearms Museum factory letter confirming all features and showing shipment on August 14, 1894 to Order Number 18940. PROVENANCE: The collection of Tim Zissler. CONDITION: Very fine. Bbl and magazine both retain 80% of the somewhat dulling blue finish with only minor scratches and dents. Bbl markings are sharp. Sights are very good. Bore is frosty with some stains and strong rifling. Receiver retains 90% bright blue finish with some high point wear and minor handling marks overall. There is some staining on the forward flats on both sides at the carry point. Dust cover also retains 90% bright blue. Loading gate has generous traces of fire blue. Elevator is a smooth mustard patina with a sharp Cal. mark. Screws are unmolested. Hammer and lever both retain a generous amount of case color which is vivid in protected areas. Lever loop has drifted to a silver patina with some staining. All markings are sharp. Stocks are fine, full sized and retain nearly all of the finish. Forend shows some minor handling marks on left side. Buttplate retains 50% case color finish with some staining at the heel and toe. Forend cap retains 90% blue finish.
