COLT MODEL 1849 POCKET REVOLVER WITH RARE SIX INCH BARREL. COLT 1849 POCKET 181177 .31 Cal. 31. 6" bbl, blue and case colored finish, 1-pc American walnut grip. Top of bbl shows correct 2-line Colt Hartford address bordered by dashes. SN appears on frame, bbl, trigger guard, backstrap, and cylinder; wedge shows last 5 digits, lever shows last 4 digits, and arbor shows last 3 digits. SNs match. Grip was not removed but fits perfectly and appears original. Cylinder shows stagecoach scene rolled with Colt's Patent mark and SN. "2" is stamped on the left bbl lug, collectors debate the meaning of this number. Grip shows a varnished finish. CONDITION: Very fine. Bbl retains 80-85% bright blue finish that is drifting somewhat dull towards the muzzle with slight staining. Bbl mark is sharp, gain twist rifling is sharp and bore is frosty. Frame retains 80-90% case color. Markings are sharp. Trigger guard and backstrap show 80% silver finish with most of the loss on the backstrap. Screws show considerable fire blue, hammer and trigger both show traces of finish. Cylinder is very fine and retains 80% bright blue finish with a complete cylinder scene. 5 safety pins are intact, nipples are clear. Grips retain nearly all of the varnish finish with a slight hightpoint wear and a few small dents. Mechanics function but need attention as the bolt timing is somewhat off and may account for the fine condition of this revolver. A very fine example of a rare Colt Model 1849 Pocket revolver with a 6" bbl made in 1861. 52707-3 TEP (3,000-4,000)
