IMPORTANT REVOLUTIONARY WAR ERA REGIMENTALLY MARKED AND IDENTIFIED HESSIAN MUSKET. DUTCH F/L MUSKET NSN 76 Cal. 76. 58-/12" overall with 43-3/4" rnd bbl with wedding rings engraved on top "R4. CIX. NO 17". Gun is brass mounted with unit markings on buttplate "2d Rt. G.B". Lockplate has a Germanic cypher. Bbl has proofs on left side of breech. This musket is identified to the Hessian Infantry Regiment of Carl von Donop which saw action in numerous major eastern battles during the Revolution. CONDITION: Very Good overall. Gun appears orig with some sympathetic stock restoration, several repaired cracks and putty repairs for several inches at rear thimble, added ramrod. Markings are all crisp and discernible as can be seen in photos. Mechanically functional with clear lightly pitted bore. 52594-52 JS (4,500-7,500)
