CHARLES LANCASTER B GRADE BOXLOCK DOUBLE RIFLE WITH CASE AND ACCESSORIES.C. LANCASTERBOXLOCK DBL RIFLE B GRADE01366830 CALW/CASE, ACCESSMODERN; C&R(ca 1912) Cal. 30/ 280 Flanged. 26" Chopper lump bbls with full length matted rib are fitted with two folding leaf express rear sight and gold bead in slightly raised front portion. Tops of bbls are engraved "Charles Lancaster 11 Panton St. Haymarket, London" and "Non Fouling Smooth Oval Bore Rifle". Bbl flats are stamped with London nitro proofs for 280 (Ross) flanged with added stamp "X 30". It appears bbls have been re-bored and re-rifled to 30 caliber as the orig 280 boring was most likely eroded or pitted. Flats are also engraved "Grade B". Bottoms of bbls are stamped "CL" and with SNs, and a sling eye is soldered to bottom ring. Coin finished "PHV-1" boxlock action features non-automatic bolted safety (SAFE inlaid in silver), safety bolt pivots either left or right. Action also features pivoting third fastener, disc set strikers, side clips, and double triggers. Action is engraved with sprays of well cut shaded scroll within geometric borders. "Charles Lancaster" is engraved on both sides. Trigger guard with SN on bow, has checkered tang. Nicely marbled and lightly fiddle figured European walnut round knob pistol grip buttstock measures 14-5/8" over Silver type pad, and features classic styling with drop points, point pattern checkering at grip, as well as a vacant silver oval and sling eye matching bbl, on toe line. Matching short splinter forend has forward pivoting lever release. Drop at heel: approx 2-1/2", drop at comb: 1-7/8". Cast: approx 1/4 off. Weight: 10 lbs. 0 oz. LOP: 14-5/8". Makers leather case is embossed "A. J. H. W." on top, and has large paper Lancaster New Bond Street label in lid, along with a later gold embossed Panton Street label. There are also instruction labels for hammerless guns and ejectors. Case contains Watson Brothers marked square oil bottle, another unmarked one, horn striker bottle, and horn handled Watson Brothers turnscrew. Also included is a steel cleaning rod and a pull through cleaning kit in leather wallet. Consignor states very accurate loads developed... Dies and ammo available to buyer. CONDITION: Good, as refinished. Bbls retain most of a "best" London black with subsequent silvering and marks. Action is cleaned to coin finish. Top lever, floorplate and trigger guard re-blued. Stocks have oil refinish with some subsequent marks, checkering re-cut. Bores are excellent. Action has just a touch of looseness, otherwise mechanically fine. Case leather is dark, has been conserved with shellac over numerous marks, scuffs, and rubs. Interior cloth is very good, with some restorations. Labels are generally good, rubbed, foxed, and soiled.
