SUPERBLY LONDON REFURBISHED BOSS VERY HEAVY PROOF (1-1/2 OUNCE, 3") PIGEON SHOTGUN WITH CASE AND TOOLS.BOSSSXS727712W/CASE & TOOLSMODERN; C&R(ca 1924, noted as a pigeon gun in records) Cal. 12 ga. 3" Chambers. 30" Chopper lump bbls are engraved "Boss & Co 13 Dover Street, Piccadilly, London England" on slightly swamped game rib. Bbl flats are stamped with London nitro proofs for 3" chambers and 1-1/2 ounces of shot. SNs and Whitworth sheaf of wheat logos are on bottoms of bbls. Robust sidelock action is stocked to the fences and features non-automatic safety, gold line tumbler end cocking indicators, and Boss's single non-selective trigger. Action is engraved with truly exceptional Boss house style rose and scroll, with 17 rose bouquets, undoubtedly the best work by Jack Sumner. "Boss & Co" is in scroll terminated riband on each lockplate. Single beaded small bow trigger guard is also scroll engraved, SN is in parchment scroll device on tang. Newly made, interesting, intricately marbled, watermarked and fiddle figured European walnut straight grip buttstock measures 15" over checkered wood butt. Stock features classic drop points, flat top point pattern checkering at grip, and a vacant gold oval on toe line. Matching splinter ejector forend has Anson release. Bore diameter: left -.730, right - .731. Bore restrictions: left - .035 with .001 recess (full), right - .019 no recess (mod). Wall thickness: left - .030, right - .032. Drop at heel: 2-1/16", drop at comb: 1-1/2". Cast: approx 1/4 off. Weight: 7 lbs. 4 oz. LOP: 15". Brown leather VC case with stitched leather corners by Brady is lined in burgundy cloth, and has reproduction Boss Dover Street label and charge card for this gun, in lid. Case contains Boss marked brass headed composition snap caps, square oil bottle, 2-pc cleaning rod, and pull through cleaning kit in black morocco wallet. CONDITION: Excellent, as completely and competently refurbished, most likely in London with only the slightest of subsequent handling and assembly marks in metal and wood surfaces. New factory quality buttstock retains essentially all its orig finish. Forend wood also appears to be new. Checkering has some over runs. Bores are excellent. Action is very tight. Bbls are on face. Front bead is missing. Mechanically fine. Case leather surface remains light in color with some marks and rubs. Interior is very fine to excellent. Accessories are fine.
