MERKEL 280 EL/ 360 EL BOXLOCK EJECTOR SMALL BORE SHOTGUN TWO BARREL TWO GAUGE SET WITH RELIEF GAME SCENE ENGRAVING AND CASE.MERKEL280 EL38413428/410 GA2 BBL SET W/CASEMODERNCal. 28 ga/ 410. 28" Bbls with matted game ribs, 28 ga Bbls marked "280 EL 28 GA" at rear portion of rib with "1" silver inlaid on extension. .410 Bbls are engraved "460 EL .410 GA" and with "2" silver inlaid. Left sides of bbls are marked with makers name and "MADE IN GERMANY". Bbl flats are stamped with SNs, gauges and chamber lengths, and German nitro proofs. Coin finished boxlock ogee backed action with automatic safety, crossbolt third fastener, disc set strikers, and dbl triggers is engraved with 80% coverage shaded scroll surrounding semi-relief game scenes on sides; two scampering hares on left, and a pair of snipe taking wing over marsh on right. Bottom of action is stamped with Suhl blacksmith logo. Blued trigger guard is also scroll engraved. Streaked and nicely stump figured European walnut straight grip buttstock with checkered diamond grip measures 14-3/8" over embossed Merkel buttplate. Each bbl set has its own dedicated splinter ejector forend with Deeley release. 28 ga. Bbls gun "1": Bore diameter: left -.551, right - .550. Bore restrictions: left - .023 (full), right - .014 (mod). Drop at heel: 2-7/16", drop at comb: 1-1/4". Cast: approx 1/4 off. Weight: 5 lbs. 6 oz. LOP: 14-3/8". 410 bbls Gun "2": Bore diameter at muzzles: left -.370, right - .388. Bore restrictions: left - (full?), right (mod?). Drop at heel: 2-9/16"-, drop at comb: 1-1/4"+. Cast: approx 1/4 off. Weight: 5 lbs. 12 oz. LOP: 14-3/8". Gun is housed in its orig green vinyl leather trimmed case by Emmebi, lined in green velvet, with brown leather label in lid. Bottom has space for action and both sets of bbls. Case contains two sets of spare ejector springs and mainsprings, along with .410 snap caps. CONDITION: Excellent, with evidence of light field use, with a few shallow marks in metal surfaces, with some darkening on bottom of action, as well as light scratches in wood finish. Bores are excellent. Mechanically fine. Case is fine. Suggested retail for this fine little gun was about $13000.00, and the 360 EL .410 is no longer manufactured. 53207-2 mgm189 (6,000-10,000)
