IMPRESSIVE AND UNIQUE 40-1/4" BARRELED 8 GAUGE PARKER GH SHOTGUN. PARKER SXS G GRADE 107229 8 GA MODERN Cal. 8 ga. 3-1/4" Chambers. 6 Frame. THE PARKER STORY does not list any 40" barrel 8 bore GH guns, however the factory records as outlined in PARKER IDENTIFICATION & SERIALIZATION ledger indicate that this SN is for a "DH" gun. Records indicate two DH 8 bores were made with 40" bbls. There is no doubt that this is a grade "2" gun, with both "2" and "G" marked on water table, and with usual "G" type engraving. These 40-1/4" fine Damascus bbls are marked with "PARKER BROS MAKERS MERIDEN CONN DAMASCUS STEEL" on slightly raised concave rib with dolls head extension. All correct marks are on bbl flats and sides of lumps. Very large hammerless action features usual automatic safety and dbl triggers. Action is engraved in "G" style with vignettes of birds on sides and trigger plate. "Parker Bros" is on each side. SN is on trigger guard tang. Well figured American walnut Parker capped pistol grip buttstock measures 14" over Parker dogs head buttplate. Usual point pattern checkering is at grip, and a vacant shield is on toe line. Matching splinter forend has usual Parker latch. Bore diameter at muzzles: left -.845, right - .822. Bore restrictions: left - .030 (mod?), right - .095 (full?). Drop at heel: 3-1/16", drop at comb: 1-11/16". Cast: neutral. Weight: 13 lbs. 4 oz. LOP: 14". PROVENANCE: Daryl Middlebrook collection. CONDITION: Fine, as restored. Bbls retain essentially all of an excellent re-brown showing lovely dramatic pattern. Action re-colored, and toned back, engraving somewhat softened. Stocks refinished in correct type Parker varnish, checkering re-cut. Bores are heavily frosted throughout with some areas of pitting. Action is tight. Bbls are on face. An incredibly rare massive Parker. 53097-4 mgm40 (8,500-14,500)
