FINE PRESENTATION SILVER GRIPPED CIVIL WAR OFFICER'S SWORD TO CAPTAIN HARRY FRALEY, 66TH OVVI.This is a fine engraved brass scabbard Emerson & Silver Trenton, New Jersey made officer's sword with a panoply of arms and eagle in hilt, fluted, decorated silver grip with brass wire wrap, solid brass scabbard with 5-line presentation "PRESENTED BY COL. JOHN T. MITCHELL / IN BEHALF OF THE MEMBERS OF CO. A / 66TH O.V.V.I. / TO CAPT. HARRY FRALEY / 66TH OVVI". Below the presentation and lower on scabbard is a well engraved star representing the 20th Army Corps. Fraley entered service as 1st Lieutenant November 5, 1861 and was finally mustered out in Louisville, Kentucky in July of 1865. The 66th Ohio saw service in Virginia while in the 12th Corps before being transferred to the 20th Corps after Gettysburg where the unit fought under General Geary. SIZE: PROVENANCE: The spectacular collections of Ray Bentley featuring the finest and rarest deluxe antique Winchesters in the world. CONDITION: Fine overall. 32" blade retains most of its lustrous finish with fine typical Emerson & Silver etching, including 4" tall soldier carrying American flag along with other patriotic motifs and motto "UNION". Sword is overall a light mustard patina, still exhibiting strong traces of gold gilt in protected areas of hilt and scabbard mounts. Silver grip has staining but retains its shape and complete fancy triple-wire wrap. Sword retains its protective leather washer. 53094-149 JS (3,000-4,000)
