Sand cast brass with nice dark even patina overall, back has both hooks and tongue. Mounted on an old card with partially legible inked inscription: "(priv)ate C W. Terre-- Co D 42nd Georgia", the remainder obliterated by old dry paste. Over this inscription a card reading "Belt Buckle worn by Private C.W. Terrell, C.S.A., surrendered at Vicksburg", had been pasted, now loose. The 42nd Infantry Regiment was mustered in at Camp McDonald, Georgia, in March 1862, with men from Gwinnett, De Kalb, Newton, Walton, Fulton, and Calhoun counties. The regiment moved to Tennessee, then Mississippi where it was attached to General Barton's Brigade in the Department of Mississippi and East Louisiana. Barton's Brigade fought at Chickasaw Bayou and Champion's Hill, and on July 4, 1863, was captured at Vicksburg. CONDITION: Very good. From the Ray Bentley collection.
Item Dimensions: 2 -1/2" x 2'.
